Mike LaLone is the latest official Eagle Scout in 2010, Ben Schlacht -
just passed his Eagle Scout Board of Review at Cole Canoe.
We also had 2 guys get First class rank at summer camp - Brian Siwka and
Ben Trela. Great job guys!!
For the Troop - the week went great..weather cooperated and teamwork
was tremendous. The boys used the NEW aprons with our logo on them and
setting up the dining fly, tents and cooking gear went smooth. It is
amazing how colored duct tape works out.
The troop earned 3rd place in gateway contest, Mr. Oakley got 1st in
action archery, first in top shot in archery,
Justin Brown earned 2nd in top shot -archery, Noah McGuire got a musical
award, Mike LaLone got 3rd in the shotgun SPL shoot.
Troop 1052 earned the HONOR TROOP award for 5 service projects
throughout the week including:
adding wood chips to the trails, filling in holes with dirt, weed-wacking
and painting a fence, flagpole and benches,
picking up 2 bags of trash while canoeing 3 hours plus fixing a broken
boardwalk.
Our skit "the king and his burger" was a huge hit at the campfire.
The guys did very well in the lumberjack competition.
Mr. Oakley got first on the root beer guzzle, Ben Schlacht got first on
the flapjack eating contest and we had an awesome time in the war canoe
race! Some leaders and boys saw the bald eagle fly over the camp. A
total of 16 merit badges were earned out of 8 boys taking 32 badges. We
did "rump bumping" which is floating down the Rifle river in inner tubes
in shallows - thus the name.
We appreciate Mr. Dan Lalone , John Federonko and Dave Brown for
their leadership and hard work all week
with gear and guiding the boys. We had no accidents and the food was
very good. NEW items at camp were a NEW human foosball rink, a NEW
trampoline inflatable at the lake, an expanded trading post, improved
climbing tower and NEW kayaks.
For 2011 the boys selected Silver Springs (NEW tent site) in the
middle of camp with a new outhouse and close to everything for the
second week of camp next year. We also have been chosen in a lottery
draw for a 2012 PHILMONT trek in New Mexico for backpacking.
I am very proud of the troop's efforts at camp and the maturity they
displayed. Looking forward to many more fun and rewarding campouts.
